Greenfield Co-Sponsors NAACP’s Pre-Juneteenth Celebration in Bossier City

The NAACP’s Bossier City/Parish Branch held its first-ever Pre-Juneteenth Celebration at Mitchell Park on June 18, 2022. The afternoon-long festivities, billed as a “fun-filled celebration of freedom, culture, and empowerment for our community,” drew joyful community members and featured food, games, music, and inspirational messages.

“The Bossier City/Parish NAACP and the community were grateful for the many sponsors that supported the first-ever Juneteenth Celebration.  We were especially grateful for the participation of Greenfield Environmental Trust Group as it indicated to the residents of the Scott-Dickerson area and the community at large, their support to revitalize and empower this community,” said event chair and coordinator Santrica Pope.  “The support that was received from Greenfield prior to and during the event was extraordinary, the presence of the team at the historic event instilled a new level of trust for the residents of Scott-Dickerson,” said Lee A. Jeter, Sr., President, Bossier City/Parish NAACP.

At a table loaded with informational flyers, reusable water bottles, pens and cinch sacks for the taking, Greenfield Environmental Trust Group (Greenfield) staff welcomed questions, and shared information about the ongoing environmental cleanup near the former Tronox/Kerr-McGee Wood Treating Facility in Bossier City (the Site). Dozens of visitors signed up to receive updates about the Site, and several expressed interest in the part-time community liaison position recently created to better engage community members.

“This has been a beautiful event,” Claire Woods, Director of the Multistate Trust’s Environmental Justice Program, told event-goers gathered under a pavilion to hear the remarks of several speakers.  “The residents we met clearly have a strong love for their community and are looking forward to the positive impact the environmental cleanup will bring,” added Ngozi Ibe, Specialist with the Environmental Justice Program.

Anyone with questions or an interest in being added to the mailing list for the Site can contact Claire Woods at cw@g-etg.com or (910) 765-7237.  For more information, visit https://bossiercity.greenfieldenvironmental.com.

The Multistate Environmental Response Trust (the Multistate Trust) was court-appointed in 2011 to own, manage, investigate, remediate, and facilitate reuse of the Site, under the oversight of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. The trustee of the court-appointed owner and manager of the Site is Greenfield Environmental Multistate Trust LLC, a Greenfield Environmental Trust Group subsidiary.
